New Research Frontiers for Greening the Financial System: INSPIRE workshop

Tuesday 3 September

09:30-17:30

The International Network for Sustainable Financial Policy Insights Research and Exchange (INSPIRE) is an independent network purpose-built to commission insights from best-in-class scholars and analysts in all parts of the world. The focus of INSPIRE is on the research challenges facing central banks and supervisors as they work to identify their role in responding to environmental challenges, such as climate change.

 The aims of the workshop are:

• to provide an opportunity to explore the NGFS’ research agenda in-depth;

• to share knowledge and experience from across the INSPIRE network, including from its first call for research proposals;

• to generate useful insights for both policymakers and researchers: a synthesis report will be produced and published in October.

The Green Performance Premium Workshop - Registration closed

Tuesday 3 September

14:00 - 15:30

The Oxford Sustainable Finance Programme at the University of Oxford and the International Institute of Green Finance at the Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE) in Beijing are undertaking a joint research project entitled ‘The Green Performance Premium (GPP): Examining historical green asset performance and the contribution of ESG-practices to micro- and macro-economic performance’.

As part of the project we are preparing two papers. The first paper examines the default risk of green bank loans. The second research paper investigates the hypothesis that micro-economic performance improvements from the adoption of ESG-related practices could influence macro-economic performance. We would like to take this opportunity to disseminate early findings, collect inputs from stakeholders, and enhance further collaborations in this area.

Purpose-driven finance: The Manual

Tuesday 3 September

14:00 - 18:00

We aim to update the existing finance curriculum in the light of recent developments toward sustainable financial markets, proposing purpose-driven finance theories in addition to the neo-classical theory, and innovative teaching methods. With this project, we aim to launch a new introductory finance curriculum, and provide an interactive ebook based course as a tool for anyone interested in learning or teaching finance. We wish to create this material collaboratively, using input from academics, practitioners, policy makers, and students. The resulting resources will be disseminated via the internet, making them free to use by participating institutions.
